About Us

Susan Kim (김수잔) is a City Councillor for the City of Victoria and a community leader with more than a decade of experience in collaborative leadership, community organizing, public policy, operations, adult education, food security and social services.

Susan has held roles in provincial and federal government, healthcare, and the non-profit sector. Her approach to public service is grounded in equity-based decision-making, community empowerment, and a strong belief that effective governance should reflect and support the diverse needs of residents. She is particularly passionate about strengthening public institutions and often half-jokes that the two things she will defend until the end are libraries and tax reform.

Susan has been actively involved with grassroots organizations and has academic backgrounds in Environmental Biology and Political Science, bringing together scientific thinking and public policy perspectives in her work. Outside of her professional and civic commitments, she enjoys running, kickboxing, music, and spending time with her chosen family.

Peter has lived in Victoria since they were five and in Fernwood for the past 12 years. They’re a parent to a four-year-old and are running for City Council because they want their kid to be able to choose to stay in Victoria when they grow up. That means making sure people can afford to build a life here.

For nearly two decades, Peter has worked to make governments listen and act on what communities need. They’ve led campaigns for affordable housing, climate action, and a stronger democracy. Their work has included building community coalitions, supporting neighbourhood campaigns, and helping win federal climate legislation.

Peter wants to bring that experience to City Hall. They believe city government should listen to residents, work with communities, and focus on making life better for the people who live here. As a councillor, Peter will work for a Victoria where people can afford to raise a family, find a home and stay in the neighbourhoods they love.

As a lifelong Victoria resident, former SD61 student, and future SD61 parent, Maiya Beech brings both personal connection and professional experience to the role of Trustee. With a background in early childhood education, non-profit social services and labour organizing, Maiya understands the importance of strong support systems for students and families.

They are passionate about social justice, music, and the arts and are committed to advancing climate action and improving access to well-resourced school counselling services.
